When you’re traveling, it’s easy to make excuses and fall off the fitness wagon. But leaving your usual routine behind doesn't mean you need to stop exercising. Here are five things that can replace your gym and all your equipment while you’re on the move. Just remember to pack your running shoes and workout clothes!
Parks and playgrounds are the perfect places to get your workout on. Not only are there multiple structures to use for exercises, getting outdoors will put you in an active state of mind. You can set up a circuit workout by designating specific exercises to do at different parts of the playground. Do pull-ups on the monkey bars, triceps curls on a bench and planks with your legs up on a swing. Check out these ideas for a full playground workout.
Resistance bands are like a gym in a pouch – easy to pack and carry pack when travelling. Available in different styles and a range of resistance levels, these stretchy rubber bands act like weights when you exercise with them but weigh next to nothing packed in your bag. Whether you have tube bands with handles at the end, loop bands or therapy bands, there are exercises you can do to build strength and stamina from the comfort of your hotel room or even while in transit.
Speaking of hotels, the top names in hospitality will usually have a gym that you can use at their properties. But if you are staying at a smaller boutique hotel or a rented home without a gym, there are plenty of exercises that can be done with the furniture found in your room.
What should you do if you don’t have any of those things available to you? Maybe the city you are visiting doesn’t have any good parks. You don’t own any exercise bands and you don’t want to buy them. Or maybe you are staying in a hostel without much furniture in your room, or much space. You can still get in a great workout using just the weight of your own body and a little bit of floor space. These bodyweight exercises can be done anywhere, require no equipment and can build strength, stamina and even get your heart pumping.
If you have a membership at an international fitness brand, you may be in luck. Many gyms and yoga studios that have a worldwide presence allow you to use their locations in different countries for free.
Gold’s Gym clients who have signed up for a one-year membership have access to their Travel Pass program. The pass allows you to work out at any Gold’s Gym location around the world over a 14-day period. AIA Vitality members can enjoy up to 70% off the recommended retail price on Gold’s Gym elite membership across all branches in the Philippines.
