You just got married, congratulations! A good foundation for marriage depends on whether a couple is physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to build a life together. Maybe this is why part of the vows couples say is to be there for each other “For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, and in health,” which means being responsible for each other’s well-being.
Staying fit and having a healthy lifestyle can be one of your common goals as a married couple. Busy couples who are looking for a way to spend quality time will find that being active together is a good bonding activity. Working out together is an easy way to strengthen your bond and burn fat at the same time. Exercising helps reduce stress in a healthy way. It produces hormones in the body that helps one feel calmer and happier. We tend to be better partners, and often more enjoyable people to spend time with, when we are healthy, fit and active.
Being fit also results in increased energy and self-confidence. Feeling good about oneself, having a positive body image can lead to better intimacy between a couple. This is the experience of yoga teachers Denise and JC De Leon, who share a few tips on staying fit during marriage:
In Denise and JC’s case, they do yoga together, among other activities such as walking their dogs or riding their bikes around their neighborhood.
Staying fit is not only physical, but mental as well. It’s important to keep the mind stimulated to maintain mental clarity, sharpness of mind, and good memory, which in turn affects our actions in everyday life.
Do the grocery, go to the market, and even cook together. “The preparation of the food from market to table is a workout in itself!” says Denise. Meal times can also be another opportunity to enjoy not just food that truly nourishes the body, mind, and soul, but also each other’s company.
There are lots of things that need to get done in the house—from doing the dishes, taking out the trash, doing the laundry, sweeping and mopping the flooors, to bathing the pets—and they are easier done as a team effort. They are also productive ways to break a sweat!
There are many creative ways for partners to express themselves in the bedroom (or elsewhere!) to burn calories! “Loosen up and let your endorphins flow!” adds Denise.
Health is an investment for the future; enabling you and your partner to create a fulfilling and productive life. With common goals, a couple can be a positive influence
